In 2004 we began selling our jewellery at music festivals and other large outdoor events to consumer
test the products. The website and wholesale business was launched in early 2005, and we opened a shop in Worcester in
February 2006. The shop has proven to be a valuable asset in terms of market testing new jewellery. In Spring 2006, we were awarded a 'Highly Commended' in the Most Promising New Business category of the
Hereford & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce Awards.
Fatlip became a Limited Company
early in 2007 as the business continued to go from strength to strength. We now exhibit at major gift trade shows
in the UK, such as the Spring and Autumn Fairs, and operate an extensive marketing programme with advertising and
PR in the major trade publications as well as a substantial online presence. In 2009, the Fatlip shop was
a finalist in the Best Independent Retailer of Jewellery category at The Greats Awards.
In 2010, we took the jewellery
in a slightly different direction with the launch of The Carmen Collection comprising crystal and cut glass pieces. And we
have also started offering other Collections consisting of more fashion-led jewellery that changes from season to season.
This works well alongside our classic jewellery that is not dictated by fashion. Put all this together and we believe we have
created a very varied product range that will appeal to all kinds of businesses selling jewellery.
In 2011,
we have moved our shop to a bigger and more prominent location in Worcester city centre. This has given us the space to expand
our jewellery display stand offering and in the summer we created a new business working alongside Fatlip; Black Dog Displays.
Right from the start, we wanted to offer gorgeous jewellery at great value prices, and the way we run our wholesale
business is structured to do this. We keep our overheads down as much as possible, for instance by using the website as our
main marketing tool, and we are not greedy with our margins. This is also why we pass on, at cost, credit card surcharges
but offer customers three other free methods of payment, and why the website runs on a proforma basis.
We
recycle packaging to help us as a business as well as to do our best for the environment, and use paper packaging
for customer purchases in the shop in 99% of transactions.
And we pride ourselves on offering great customer
service. You will see proof of this by reading the comments in our Guestbook. We understand that customers are the lifeblood
of our business, and many customers old and new have become friends as well as part of our valued clientele.
If
you have any questions about Fatlip, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
